Cocchi Americano Bianco - 75cl - 16.5% ABV
£21.00
All Cocchi products still follow the original recipes formulated by Giulio Cocchi in 1891, with the same intention - to craft the distinctive wines that have made the Cocchi a cult name. Widely regarded as the original Aperitivo Americano, Giulio Cocchi is now inscribed in the National Register of the Historic Companies in Italy for its first 121 years of uninterrupted activity.
To make it, a secret blend of herbs and spices, including gentian, cinchona and bitter orange peels are added to the wine base which is then steeped over a period of time. The result is fresh, with elderflower notes on the aroma, honey zesty citrus to taste before the bitter gentian comes into play.
The name “Americano” is both due to the alcohol made bitter (“amaricato”) by the addition of herbs and spices and to the American habit of drinking vermouth with ice and soda - which makes for a delicious way to serve this (garnish with some mint if you do)!
NEGRONI ADVICE -
Cocchi Americano is our favourite for White Negronis. The floral top notes, the honeyed stone fruit and light spice all combine to make it the perfect choice to partner with gin and a bitter such as Suze or Kamm & Sons. We find that in a White Negroni, the combination works well with gins that have a strong grapefruit note (e.g. Sacred Pink Grapefruit) or ones with a clear camomile and or elderflower notes (e.g. Tanqueray No. TEN).
