St. George Dry Rye Reposado Gin - 75cl - 49.5% ABV
St George Spirits was established in 1982 by Jörg Rupf, who arrived into California with a view to producing artisan eaux de vie that would celebrate the abundant raw materials as well as the state’s fledgling foodie culture. At 34-years-old, the distillery is one of America’s first craft producers and its gins are celebrated for their wild Californian flavours.
Sweet, burnt wood claws at the throat, joined by a sweet, fleshy citrus and a hint or marzipan.
A boiled sweet like candied lime taste bursts onto the palate, along with a sharp pinch of pepper. This isn’t aged gin as you know it… wood usually has a mellowing factor, but this feels alive, sparking at the tongue like a jump lead and willing the mouth with fire and fleshy orange.
Avoid tonic and serve in a highball topped up with soda.
