In 1905, Thomas Fentiman, an iron puddler from Cleckheaton, England was approached by a fellow tradesman for a loan. A deal was struck and a recipe for botanically brewed ginger beer was provided as security. The loan was never repaid so Thomas became the owner of the unique recipe. Thomas began using the recipe and producing botanically brewed ginger beer which he delivered door-to-door using a horse and cart for transport.
Fresh and clean in the mouth, the Fentimans Tonic Water range is worth a try.
Fentimans Tonic Water -
Using an organic grain base, Fentimans mill quinine bark and lemongrass to create a natural tonic water that is distinctly zesty and effervescent. There is a sharpness derived from the bitter aromas of quinine bark, but not too much as the light dose of cane sugar balances out the flavour.
Fentimans Light Tonic Water -
Made using a recipe based on Fentimans Tonic Water, this light version maintains a refreshing and distinctive citrus twist, but with 30% fewer calories. Less sugar may mean it carries less flavour when mixed with gin, but for those looking for diet tonic options, this is a cut above many out there.
Fentimans 19:05 Herbal Tonic Water -
The 19:05 is a more complex product within the Fentimans range. It contains a delicate mixture of floral and herbal flavours. The earthy notes of Hyssop and Myrtle are counterbalanced by the sweetness of sugar and the sharpness of Quinine leaving a lingering herbal, slightly bitter finish. There is also an underlying aroma generated by the sweetness of the Lime Flower with subtle notes of Juniper. Pick a classic London Dry to match with the tonic water as the result is both intriguing and moreish!
