Jack Rudy Tonic Syrup is an artisanal tonic water concentrate from South Carolina.
The man himself, Jack Rudy, was said to be many things. He was a pilot who illegally flew his plane under the Ohio River Bridge (on a dare), an inventor who created a mechanical device for pharmacists to count pills, and a craftsman who once built a houseboat out of an old city bus.
The syrup itself was created by mixologist Brooks Reitz of FIG in Charleston, South Carolina and began life as a personal project in late 2011. It quickly developed a fanatical following when Reitz started using it in the restaurant’s bar. He named the creation after his great-grandfather and bottled it in apothecary-style bottles, a nostalgic nod to when tonic syrups would have been more commonplace.
Add soda to make a regular Gin & Tonic, or use it in cocktails for a punch of flavour. It combines concentrated quinine, a secret blend of botanicals, real cane sugar and packs a delicious taste of citrus (grapefruit) and lemongrass.
